Learn about the evolution, anatomy, physiology, behavior and conservation of one of our favorite reef residents, the octopus.
During your ocean dives, learn how to search for them on the reef, you will conduct 2 different surveys over 2 dives.

NUDIBRANCH AWARENESS Specialty Certification
Nudibranchs are some of the smallest, most fascinating creatures on the coral reef. During this program you will learn all about their classification and identification, plus how they feed, move, reproduce and defend themselves. During the 2 dives you will identify different local species of Nudibranch and sea slug, plus look at their activities and anatomy.

Sponge Ecology Specialty Certification
Marine Sponges are an integral part of the coral reef. You will learn about the evolution, biology of sponges, types of sponge species and local sponge ID. Also, the sponges role in the ecosystem and types of survey techniques. During 2 ocean dives you will identify sponges, conduct a transect survey and observe the sponge filtration process.

Humpback whale Specialty Certification
This non-diving specialty is an introduction to Humpback whale physiology, behaviors and photo identification methods, familiarizing participants with the skills, knowledge, procedures, techniques and enjoyment of Humpback Whale behavioral observation and conservation. This course consists of classroom learning; whale season permitting, an optional boat trip can be added to look for local whale populations.
