Who we are
Marine Conservation Costa Rica was founded in 2019 by Katharine Evans and Georgia King. Based in Quepos, on Costa Rica’s stunning central Pacific coast, we are passionate about protecting our local marine environment, engaging our community, and inspiring others to care for the ocean.

Meet The Team
Kat
Kat is a Biologist as well as a PADI Master Instructor. She was born in the UK, but settled in Costa Rica in 2002, and is now a naturalized Costa Rican citizen.
What is your role at MCCR? I manage the coral restoration project, diving in the nurseries and working with interns. I am also active in our community outreach program, and run other reef research projects
What is your favorite marine creature? Scrawled Filefish
What was your favorite underwater moment of all time? So many moments! Hanging out with a Manta Ray for 30 minutes at Isla del Cano, Costa Rica
Geo
Born in the UK, Georgia is a biochemist with a MSc in Wildlife conservation. She is a PADI Course Director who settled in Costa Rica in 2005.
What is your role at MCCR? I manage all the behind the scenes stuff, putting together training programs, grant proposals and keeping everything running smoothly.
What is your favorite Marine creature? I think it would have to be any member of the devil ray family.
What was your favorite underwater moment ? I think having a whale shark swimming over my head was pretty awesome.
THOMAS
Thomas is a Biologist and our training director. He is a PADI Instructor and loves being underwater.
What is your role at MCCR? I head up our intern training, so I run our marine research training courses, teaching about reef monitoring, and key marine species on the reefs. And I love getting hands on in the coral nurseries and teaching about citizen science initiatives.
Favorite marine creature – Harlequin shrimp
NASHIRA
Nash is an amazing communicator and the lead in our community education initiatives. She also heads up social media, and is often spotted camera in hand
What is your role with MCCR? I am the Community Education Director, this involves planning and running kids camps and school visits, this is often with the help of interns. I also love photography and take lots of photos for our social media.
Favorite marine creature – Nudibranch
Hannah
Hannah is a biologist and our reef research coordinator. She loves working with our interns on projects.
What is your role at MCCR? I´m the director of student-lead reef research projects, which is fun as I get to guide and work closely with our interns. I am also running my our research project on local sponge populations.
Favorite marine creature? Bit of a benthic nerd, love Sponges

Grounded in a dedication to sustainability and community, our non-profit organization is dedicated to advancing the health of our oceans. Through impactful marine education and proactive initiatives, we aim to protect and nurture our distinctive marine biodiversity, while also preserving and revitalizing crucial habitats. Our endeavors include the implementation of coral restoration courses and projects, as well as active involvement in marine education and research, all geared towards enhancing the resilience of our local marine ecosystems.
